The aim of this study was to determine the allelic distribution of alpha- actinin-3 (ACTN3) R577X
polymorphisms in a total of 36 national cyclist team, 13female and 23 male. DNA samples from the players were isolated from Blood samples by using commercial DNA isolation kit. Genotyping of the
samples was accomplished by Real-Time PCR technique. 12 of the examined bicycler had RR, 10 had
RX and 14of the bicycler had XX genotype for the ACTN3 R577X polymorphism. When we examine
them according to genders, 4 of the 13 female cyclist had RR,2 had RX and 7 had XX genotypes. For
males, 8 of the 23 male cyclist had RR, 8 had RX and 7 had XX genotypes . ACTN3 was counted as 10
in females and 24 in males, whereas X allele was 16 in females and 22 in males. Our results showed that
ACTN3 XX genotype and X allele dominated in our cohort. We hope that this first pilot study carried
out in national cyclist team will guide further studies with extended numbers of players.
